WEDDING SPEECHES

T
If you’ve ever been to a wedding with a truly unforgettable speech, you know the power of words. They can shift the energy in a room. Crack the tension. Make a grown man cry. They will be quoted at some point during every family event going forward.
We’ve filmed a lot of weddings. Like, a lot. And while every speech is special in its own way, there are a few that we also still quote at our own family events. Here’s what made them stand out:
hey can shift the energy in a room.

SPEAK FROM LOVE
The Stand-Up Comedian
When you have to delete the ambient laughter from the film because it sounds like the studio audience from Friends - it was that good. He roasted the groom (mercilessly), told stories that had the guests in stitches, and still managed to land the most heartfelt line at the end:
“I want you to know you are enough.”
Takeaway: Humour works - if it’s kind. And ending with heart? Keeps them guessing until the very end.
The Bride Who Spoke First
This bride flipped the script. If you ask us, more brides to the podium thank you very much. It was short, simple, and straight from the heart. It started with a “HELOOOOO GUYS” and a little giggle. She thanked her guests for flying across the world, gushed about how she couldn’t believe this day is a reality, and ended with: “Looking around at the faces here tonight, I'm reminded that love isn’t just something between two people. It’s something we build within a community. And what a beautiful community we have.” - cue the tears.
Takeaway: You don’t need perfect prose, you need honesty. Speak from the heart. Speak like you’re having an intimate conversation over dinner.
The Dad Who Couldn’t Get Through It
He tried. He really tried. But the emotion was too much. The crowd went still. It was beautiful. Raw. Human.
Takeaway: Don’t be afraid to break. Sometimes, the speech isn’t the words, it’s the moment
The Dynamic Duo
One speech. Two people. The brother of the groom and his wife lit the room on fire. They shared the mic and riffed off each other like seasoned performers. They alternated stories, shared their own mini-roast battles, and delivered a one-two emotional punch that ended with:
“May Paige’s wisdom always guide them and may Ryan always agree even if he’s not sure what he is agreeing to. May their love grow ever stronger with every adventure they share”
Takeaway: If you’ve got chemistry with your co-speaker, run with it. It’s magic when done right
What We’ve Learned After Filming Hundreds of Speeches
-
You have shared experiences - use those moments.
-
Write it down, but don’t read it.
-
Use stories, not clichés.
-
End with something meaningful.
-
Speak like you’re talking to your people you know - because you are.
And if all else fails?
Speak from love. It’s the one thing that always, always lands.
