What a “nailed it” day looks like

REAL WEDDING TIMELINE

We’ve seen it all. Some days flow like the Zambezi River, and some make people want to hide in the bathroom with a bottle of champagne (which is totally acceptable). If you're planning your wedding and wondering how to structure the day so it flows beautifully and lets you breathe, you're not alone.

Here's what we've learned, in our humble seen-it-all opinion. The best wedding days feel easy. Relaxed. Like they’re unfolding naturally even if they’re secretly following a well-thought-out timeline behind the scenes.

Below is a real-life example of what a stress-free wedding day that makes you think “Dang, we nailed this whole getting married thing”, looks like. Built from experience, tested on real humans, and approved by both photographers and grandmas.

he kind of day where you live   the dream

the best weddings aren’t the ones that go perfectly

08:00 – Slow Start & Coffee in PJs

The day starts early, but not rushed. Just you and your closest people, sipping coffee, playing music, or dancing around in robes. It’s our chance to capture those quiet, golden moments before the buzz begins.

Secret Sauce: Don’t overcrowd this part with to-dos. Leave room to feel.

10:00 – Hair, Makeup & Laughter

Time for mimosas boo. Keep your getting-ready space calm and clutter-free, with natural light and snacks nearby. And always assign a designated playlist queen. We’ll be floating around, catching all the giggles and hairspray clouds.

13:00 – Getting Dressed & First Looks

Build in a buffer for getting into your dress. Not just for zipper catastrophes, but this is THE moment without fail where it all hits. Take time to feel it.

Whether you’re doing first looks with your partner, your dad, your dog, or your best friends, they are emotional gold. Doing this before the ceremony also helps shake off the nerves and carve out time for real connection.

15:00 – The Ceremony

Why we are all here, right? If we’ve had a relaxed lead-up, you can present here. Soak in every word, the world calms down and remember to breathe. And yes, it’ll all feel like a blur when it’s done, but we’ve got it captured.

16:00 – Champagne, Hugs & Golden Hour

Right after the ceremony, give yourself a good hour just to be hugged, cheered (is that even a word), and celebrated. This is often the best light of the day for photos and film, so we’ll sneak you away for just a little bit of golden hour magic.

Secret Sauce: Keep the family photos to a minimum so you can enjoy the celebration instead of being on the sidelines.

18:00 – Dinner, Speeches, & Happy Tears

A relaxed, well-paced dinner gives space for real moments. Don’t cram in 9 speeches between courses, just the right ones. Let people take their time. We’ll be rolling quietly, catching everything from the mic drops and belly laughs to the silent tears.

20:00 – First Dance & Chaos Begins

This is when shoes come off. Lights dim. Stories are made. Whether it’s a wild dance floor, a silent disco, or a chilled-out firepit hangout, we capture the shift-the energy, the joy, the pure, beautiful mess of it all.

Final Thoughts

A stress-free wedding isn’t about rigid planning, it’s about smart planning. Deciding what is important to you. It’s building in enough breathing room to let the magic happen naturally. It’s trusting your vendors (hey, that’s us) and letting go of perceived perfection.

Because the truth is, the best weddings aren’t the ones that go perfectly. They’re the ones that feel real.

Working together as husband and wife means more than sharing a camera crew. Lizé sees the story unfolding in the words, emotions, and little details, while Stephan focuses on the visuals, light, and composition. Together, we bring two perspectives and one shared vision to every wedding film. It’s personal, occasionally chaotic, and rooted in the belief that your story deserves to be told with genuine care.
